HISTORY (read...)
Jugaban is a Barangay within the town proper of Carigara. It is bounded by Barangay Barugohay Central, on the west by Barangay Sawang, on the north by Carigara Bay, and on the south by Barangay Balilit. This Barangay derived its name from Hunggaban, which means “A place to dig ditches”. Years ago the people of this barangay dug ditches to get water for their rice fields. They referred to the place as Hunggaban, which eventually became Jugaban. Jugaban is famous for its blacksmith shop which manufacture sharp bolos and knives. One of the foundries, SG Liwanag Enterprises, has earned a name for well-crafted bolos and knives with decorated hilts and scabbards, sometimes inlaid with nacre. The business Enterprise is registered with Department of Trade and Industry. Another source of income for the folks of Jugaban is fishing, especially for those living in Sitio Monbon. The barangay produces rice. The bulk of the residents, however, derive their livelihood from employment in various agencies, both government and private sector, and from different kinds of Entrepreneurial ventures. This barangay population is 1,997 in 404 households on a total Land Area of 29.58 hectares. The barangay fiesta is on October 4 honoring St. Francis of Assisi.
