Please take note that Pachalis Solemnitatis (Circular Letter Concerning the Preparation and Celebration of the Easter Feasts) states in no. 40: “It is recommended that there be a communal celebration of the Office of Readings and Morning Prayer on Good Friday and Holy Saturday.” It is thus important to give priority to the communal celebration of these OFFICIAL LITURGICAL CELEBRATIONS over popular devotions such as the Stations of the Cross (which could be done in the evenings of the Holy Week instead); in fact, these prayers can be used in the celebration of the Office of the Tenebrae. It is also right that our faithful will be able to experience and savour the wealth of the prayers and reading of the Church’s Liturgy of the Hours especially on these solemn days of the liturgical year.
