HISTORY (read...)
It was in the year 1880 that Sta. Rosa as a Sitio was created and occupied by the ten families, the 3rd descendants of the ancestral clan of ALA and DISPO. The Spanish Catholic missionaries constructed a chapel through bayanihan labor from residents. The missionaries brought them a miraculous image of the Saint Rose of Lima that later on became the patron saint of this barangay. Its barrio fiesta is celebrated every 30th day of August. Hence, the original feast day of the saint is on the 23rd of August. Thus, the people of the Barangay did not change the date of their barrio fiesta because of their belief that changing it is a bad omen and the people will face dire consequences.
On January 09, 2019 Sta. Rosa became a mission station thru the shared efforts and support of the then parish priest of St. Joseph Parish- Barugo, Leyte, Rev. Fr. Loreto P. Amante and the people of the barangay with Rev. Fr. Ronilo L. Barreda as the first priest-in-charge.
The original structure of the church was destroyed when Super Typhoon Yolanda hit the country. But it was rebuilt through the benevolence of Caritas Manila and the support of the generous people of Sta. Rosa and of the then mission priest Rev. Fr. Ronilo L. Barreda. The beautification of the church did not stop even when Rev. Fr. Ronilo L. Barreda was transferred to Dagami, Leyte. Since Rev. Fr. Marlon A. Cua was assigned the facade and the landscapes of the church were ameliorated.
At present, the Church has almost 6,700 Catholics and some of them are converts from different religions.
