SPECIFIC REMINDERS FOR HOLY WEEK

  1. Please make use of the text in Binisaya of the TINIEBLAS (Lauds) for Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday. Get the text here (cf text).
  2. Be reminded that Lay Ministers are NOT ALLOWED to bless palms because blessed palms are considered sacramentals.
  3. For the Chrism Mass please bring with you the EMPTY BOTTLES of the holy oils from your parish.
  4. The TABERNACLE SHOULD BE EMPTY before the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper (PS 48, RM). This means that all consecrated hosts should have been consumed by the last Mass on Holy Wednesday; so please make sure not to consecrate more hosts than necessary in the Masses on Holy Monday until Holy Wednesday.
  5. The Repository of Holy Thursday should be a CLOSED TABERNACLE (not in a monstrance or an exposed ciborium or a veiled open display case) (cf PS 55).  In fact, all consecrated hosts which will be used for the Good Friday liturgy and communion should be placed inside the Repository.
  6. The Altar of Repose / Repository can BE TAKEN DOWN ONLY after the Good Friday Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion (with communion). If there are extra consecrated hosts they should be placed in the Rectory chapel or in a prepared special place in the sacristy (not in the sanctuary).
  7. The Easter Vigil should NOT BEGIN BEFORE NIGHTFALL; and this should be taken in its STRICTEST SENSE (PS 78, RM).
  8. Adults who will receive the sacrament of BAPTISM during the Easter Vigil should also receive the sacrament of CONFIRMATION. So the minister who baptizes them also confirms them.
  9. The ORDO of the Philippines instructs that the SUGAT is the Entrance Rite of the First Mass of Sunday.  However, if a parish celebrates the Vigil Mass at a later time in the evening and ends around the early hours of the following day, it is logical to append the “Sugat” after the Vigil Mass. But if a parish celebrates the Vigil Mass at an earlier time and ends before midnight (early morning hours), the “Sugat” should be done the following morning.
