Standing in the heart of the City, facing north, going north direction, surely you will Pass by BLESSED SACRAMENT PARISH before reaching the San Juanico bridge. The parish site is part of the landholding owned by Maximino Soriano, covered by title No. OCT -763, Cadastral lot nos. 2315 and 2316 with an area of 56,330 square meters and 42,698 square meters respectively and located at Brgy. 94 Tigbao, Tacloban City, surveyed and approved in the late ’70s, a certain engineer, in the person of the late Engr. Basilio Magno took charge of the blasting on the said property for the road concreting where boulders used were taken from the said property.
Later years passed, Engr. Basilio Magno Convinced the registered owner to subdivide the property and persuaded to sell the parcels of land to him where a portion of the purchased lot becomes the site of the parish through a deed of Donation from the late Engr. Basilio Magno and wife Perpetua F. Magno to Rev. Fr. Johannes Glanemann, SVD, a German missionary whose project was constructing a church, BLESSED ARNOLD JANSSEN CHURCH, a Church in Tigbao, Tacloban City through the generous aid of Catholics in West Germany on September 1979.
It took some time under the personal administration of the SVD Father, Fr. Glanemann until such time that when he died, the Archdiocese of Palo Through Pedro R. Dean, D.D., Then Archbishop of Palo with Rev. Fr. Jerome C. Costibolo, Chancellor, considered changing and make the Blessed Arnold Janssen Church be converted into an ARCHDIOCESAN SHRINE TO THE BLESSED SACRAMENT on November 22, 1987.
On August 2, 2003, the canonical establishment of the Quasi-Parish of the Blessed Sacrament on Brgy. Tigbao was designated by Pedro R. Dean, D.D., then Archbishop of Palo with Rev. Fr. Hector R. Villamil, JCD, Chancellor through the effort of Fr. Francisco Mendoza, SSS and the parishioners nearby.
August 1, 2004, the Canonical establishment of the new parish of the Blessed Sacrament and as Archdiocesan Shrine of the Blessed Sacrament was designated by Pedro R. Dean, D.D., then Archbishop of Palo together with Rev. Fr. Erwin A. Balagapo, JCD Acting Chancellor to the official title BLESSED SACRAMENT PARISH with its patron saint: St. Peter Julian Eymard and August 2 as its feast day.
