Circular No. 21-53
November 25, 2021
Your Eminences, Excellencies and Reverend Administrators:
RE: PPCRV PRAYER FOR 2022 NATIONAL AND LOCAL ELECTIONS
At the Permanent Council meeting held last Tuesday, November 23, 2021, the request of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) for an endorsement of the “Prayer Power Campaign” asking the public to collectively pray for a peaceful, credible, and transparent 2022 National and Local Elections was presented and approved.
They requested the Body to enjoin all parishes, shrines and chapels in the country to pray the PRAYER FOR 2022 ELECTIONS prepared by Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas in all our Sunday Masses. The prayer is similar to the Oratio Imperata but its focus is on the 16 values enshrined in the preamble of the Constitution.
Please find enclosed the English version and the Tagalog translation of the Prayer for 2022 Elections approved by the Permanent Council. The above-mentioned prayer will be launched on the First Sunday of Advent, November 28, 2021.
Take note, however, that since we already have a number of prayers being recited during our Sunday Masses, the Episcopal Commission on Liturgy recommends that we now pray the Oratio Imperata for Protection against the Covid-19 Virus BEFORE the Mass; the Prayer for the 2022 Elections EVERY 1ST AND 3RD SUNDAY of the month and the Prayer for the Synod on Synodality EVERY 2ND AND 4TH SUNDAY of the month. It is suggested that it be said after the Post Communion Prayer of the Mass.
Thank you for your kind attention.
Sincerely in the Lord,
(SGD) ROMULO G. VALLES, D.D.
Archbishop of Davao
President, CBCP
