Tacloban City (DWDD) – The Archdiocese of Palo will started today the distribution of transparent rain coats to pilgrims as the state weather bureau forecasted that storm “Amang” will dump rains during the papal visit in Leyte on Saturday.
Fr. Amadeo Alvero, the archdiocese social communications director, said they will deliver rain coats to parishes or holding areas to ensure that pilgrims will have their own protection against rain during the mass.
Pilgrims are not allowed to use umbrellas during the mass; instead they are advised to use transparent rain coats for security reasons.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said in its latest forecast that the storm may recurve before reaching the region, but it will dump rains to Leyte on Saturday.
Mass attendees are expected in schools designated as holding areas by Friday afternoon. Afterwards, they will be shuttled to an unloading area nearest to the airport complex, for a two-kilometer walk to the apron.
The 10-hectare new airport apron will be opened to pilgrims 6:00 p.m. tomorrow and will be closed 6:00 a.m. or more than three hours before the arrival of Pope Francis.
The archdiocese had set up only 260 chairs for the pope’s entourage, church workers, and government officials. The rest will have to stand up inside the quadrants. Archdiocese of Palo / AES
