LEYTE, PHILIPPINES. Today, the Priests of the Archdiocese of Palo with Archbishop John Du, Archbishop of Palo, offered a Penitential Walk. The Priests in the seven vicariates of the Archdiocese of Palo chose a specific church within their vicinity where priests would gather and start the spiritual activity. The Parish Community participated in the Mass celebrated by the priests in another Church where the Penitential Walk ended. Three intentions guided the Penitential Walk: Reparation for the sins committed by priests, to plead for an end to the Pandemic caused by the virus COVID 19, and a prayer for a CHAMP 2022 (Clean, Honest, Accurate, Meaningful, and Peaceful) Elections.

Archbishop John joined the priests and deacons of the Vicariate of Palo in offering penance. The Penitential walk started in the Parish of St. Joachim in San Joaquin in the town of Palo. While in procession to the Palo Metropolitan Cathedral, a 3.6-kilometer walk, where the Penitential Walk would end; the priests recited the Holy Rosary and the Litany of the Saints. The Archbishop presided over the Holy Mass., Fr. Randy Raagas, the Pastoral Action Director of the Archdiocese, the Parish Priest of St. Joachim gave the sermon.

“As people saw their priests under the morning sun doing this act of penance and sacrifice, they cannot help but ask questions. Some of them may be intrigued by what we are doing. But, one thing is for sure; it edified their faith!” said Fr. Raagas. “In the same manner, it also renewed our dedication as ministers to serve the Church faithfully and lead the flock to God in the way of penance, humility, and sacrifice. May God hear our prayers.” said Rev. Erik Montejo, a deacon soon to receive Holy Orders.

The Penitential walk was done simultaneously in all the Vicariates of the Archdiocese of Palo at 7:30 in the morning. Archbishop John expressed his joy and gratitude to the presbyterium for its heartwarming response. He also commended the efforts of all the Vicar Foranes in leading this spiritual activity in their respective Vicariates.
