The town of Tolosa was then part of the barrios of the Municipality of Tanauan.

The town was formally established as an independent municipality in 1861. Two years later the St. Michael the Archangel Church in Tolosa, Leyte became a parish on February 12, 1863. The first parish priest was Padre Vicente Gutierrez, a Spaniard.

The first Filipino priest of the parish was Padre Quintin Bautista.

The parish celebrates the feast of its patron every 8th of May.

The parish celebrated its 155th anniversary since the day of its foundation as a parish.

The present parish priest is Rev. Msgr. Alex T. Opiniano who was installed on February 16, 2015. He is the 37th parish priest of Tolosa.

Barangay Telegrafo was elevated as a parish with St. Peter the Apostle as its patron saint. The parish fiesta is celebrated every 29th of June the feast of Saints Peter and Paul. It was Rev. Fr.
